By 2009 Home Depot will include 6,000 products in its portfolio, or 12 % of the chain's sales - one of America's largest green labeling initiative. Even though almost all products are already available, they are not clearly labeled as "eco". Products can qualify in two ways: 1. Meet federal and industry standards, e.g. EnergyStar or the Forest Stewardship Council or 2. a third party: Scientific Certification Systems will test and validate the products. Home Depots new line: Eco Options includes fluorescent lightbulbs, OdoBan glass cleaner, Miraclo-Gro. My only hope is, that I be able to buy indoor paint that is environmentally friendly, which right now is not in their shelves.
