It kind of sounds like an oxymoron. But it is not. BRAVO to Diane von Fuerstenberg for using geothermal system in her new project - a 35,000 sft office, showroom and retail store in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. The entire complex will be heated and cooled by water pumped from the underground. The geothermal system taps into 55 degree F water and transfers the heat to warm the building in winter and cool it in summer. The roof of the building is covered in easy-to-maintain plants and grasses, and has two heliostat mirrors tracking the sun and directing the rays into the building, thus reducing the use of artificial light.
