Masdar City in the Persian Gulf is the new venue for the latest and most groundbreaking green building venture to date. A 2.3 square-mile community for about 50,000 residents will be set behind walls to keep hot desert winds as well as airport noise out. This future model city is designed by Foster + Partners, the UK-based company specializing in energy-saving architecture. One of my favorite examples is the Hearst Building in NYC. Masdar City will have narrow pedestrian streets, shaded by canopies made from photo voltaic panels. Water will flow from a solar-powered seawater-desalination plant. Masterplanned by Foster + Partners, the initiative has been driven by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, and will be a center for the development of new ideas for energy production. This project really shows who cares. More info on the Masdar Project: www.masdaruae.com

I just hope, that they will not pollute the water with hot water from the desalination device as it was, or still is happening somewhere in the middle east. Because you do not destroy the water ecosystem only by garbage, but also with heat, or cold water. Saltwater aquarists could talk about the importance of the stable temperature in the marine tank for hours...

Thanks for the info….I am trying to put together a list of what celebs are doing to help the environment. Ed Begley Jr. is having a sweepstakes where he flys you to Hollywood and gives you tips on how to go green ( http://www.earthlab.com/life/livingwithed/ ) Pretty crazy stuff. Obviously there are many others. Drop me a link if you have any on the top of your head. Thanks again for the info!
